| The Stable Ministry at Community Christian Church was founded nearly twenty-five years ago to provide a means of serving the needs of our church and our community. The size and scope of the ministry has grown over time to the point where we now hold three large garage sales each year. These sales—which we call our “Stable Sales”—allow us to raise money for a wide variety of charitable outreach and church projects. |
We accept donations year round of clothing, household goods, appliances, furniture, toys, books, tools, exercise equipment, certain types of electronics, home décor items, and much more. Members of the Stable Ministry spend two days each week sorting, cleaning, repairing, and laundering the items that have been donated. We are blessed with donations far in excess of what we can accommodate at our own sales, so we send a portion of items we’ve received each week on to other missions in the surrounding communities and in the city of St. Louis. We also stand ready to provide members of our community with clothing and household items in the event of sudden and devastating loss, such as from a fire or flood.

Proceeds from our Stable sales go to support many outreach organizations, including SEGA Missionaries, World Disciple Women, Disciple of Christ Councils and Missions, the Circle of Concern (providing food and support to people in need in the Parkway, Rockwood and Valley Park school districts), and Woodhaven and Caring Solutions (residential programs for disabled adults). We also contribute to inreach projects throughout our church, especially those that enable us to serve our community more effectively, such as our new family life center.

Our Stable sales are held the first Tuesday through Saturday of May, August, and October. Specific dates and times of all three sales in 2012 are provided in the chart below:

While the Stable Ministry welcomes donations, we do suggest that you keep in mind when deciding whether an item is suitable for donating to the Stable.
1. IS IT CLEAN? Could someone wear this “as is”?
• Clothes washed and in good condition.
• If possible, leave garments on their hangers. They will arrive less wrinkled. We will provide replacement hangers if needed.
• Household items clean and not broken.
2. IS IT COMPLETE? Are all the parts here?
• Check toys, games and puzzles to be sure that all the pieces are included.
• Electrical items need their cords and, if possible, instruction manuals
• Shoes, gloves, and mittens come in pairs!
3. IS IT USEFUL? Could someone use this; does it work?
• Small electrical appliances (toasters, coffee makers, clock radios, etc.) should be in working order.
• Clothing should have buttons and zippers that work. Include size if possible, especially on men’s suits. Example: 44R or 44L.
• Linens need to be in useable condition, not too worn.
• Some items never sell or are very difficult to sell. There are requirements to recycle some of these items and it costs money to get rid of them.
• Please do not donate auto tires, answering machines, old computers and computer monitors.
• Call before donating newer computer systems and TVs.
• Please do not donate old textbooks, torn or soiled books, or those with writing or underlining in them.
The Stable Ministry welcomes donations of useable items. If you have something you would like to donate, we ask that you please call the church office at 636-394-2772 and leave your name and telephone number, along with a brief explanation of the item. A member of the Stable Ministry will contact you as soon as possible. Donations cannot be left without first checking with the church or a member of the Stable Ministry.
